Despite the ever-changing fashion seasons, trends and collections our fashion still has definite clothing pieces that remain in fashion and are popular to be worn. Sometimes these items disappear from massive consumption and are won only by real fashionistas and dandies. As you already noticed, three-piece suits, vests, suspenders, bow ties are disappearing and it's quite difficult to find people who are wearing these garments. Yet, it's known for sure, that many brands start to modernize it and re-emerge in their collections.
The same story is about double-breasted suits, which I personally frind really masculine and classy. These suits appeared in 1930's and looked like military jackets, then it was modernized in the 1950's, when designers presented utilitarian single-breasted models.
However, there were real fashionistas who didn't change their double-breasted suits, I have some good examples of famous persons who did not follow the trend, yet appeared in those double-breasted jackets: Marlon Brando, Gianni Agnelli and Michael Caine, they didn't care about trends, they wore only those pieces which could underline their style (from 1950- to 1970's).
In the late 1980's double breasted jackets came back in fashion, so that many Wall-Street guys started to wear those suit jackets with bank collar shirts and wide ties.
Starting from the '80's this trend didn't dissapear, yet the silhouette was modernized, it became fitted. Now you can wear this jacket teaming with denim pants or classic pants.
